Myofascial Release is a highly specialised, hands on, stretching technique that eliminates pain and restores motion to the fascia.  It enhances strength and flexibility of movement.  The therapist stretches small areas at a time, guided by feedback from the patient’s body.  The feedback tells the therapist how much force to use, the direction of the stretch and how long to stretch the fascia.  It is considered a very relaxing treatment that equalises the muscle tension throughout the body.  If this tension is left unattended it can compress nerves and muscles causing pain.
The Fascia is the thin connective tissue within the body.  It is similar in appearance to a spiders web, densely woven, covering every muscle, nerve, bone, vein and artery as well as all of the internal organs including the heart, brain, lungs and spinal cord.  The Fascial System is one complete structure, uninterrupted from head to toe.  Every part in the whole body is connected to every other part by the fascia.

When the Fascial System is healthy it stretches and moves without restriction.  The fascia becomes tight and restricted causing tension throughout the body when we have a fall or injury.  This tightness and restriction can also occur after years of bad posture or repetitive stress injury.
Myofascial Release is highly effective in treating patients with the following complaints.

  • Back strain, chronic back pain, low back pain, thoracic back pain
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Chronic cervical pain
  • Complex pain complaints
  • Dizziness, vertigo
